M is for Money!

M is for Money

Money, money, money….money!

After the pledge of allegiance and circle time, we read Making Cents (Robinson). The kiddos really enjoyed this book and I particularly appreciated the way it translated coins into product the kiddos needed to build something new! A great read.

A found the cutest little tune for them to sing after we read the book. I printed it out and had each kiddo take a coin as their part and sing it one after the others. They had fun and insisted on a second and third round!

We worked on worksheets for the Letter M and money related sheets as well. Lots of math today πŸ™‚

Gotta love this one-guess it’s obvious we’re an Apple family-lol!

After they were all done, it was time for WAR! Money war that is. The boys grabbed their deck of money cards and went head to head. It was definitely more of a challenge for the middles but even the olders had to pay close attention too πŸ™‚ I really loved this game and know we’ll continue to play it even after summer school has finished.

Money War Game

After a bit of War, we took a break for Shannon’s Snack Shop!

Each kiddo was given $2.00 in change to purchase their snacks. It was fun watching them figure out which snacks they wanted and how much they needed to spend. I did have a few ground rules: one protein (cheese or yogurt), at least one fruit, and they had to spend the entire amount.

After snack, we headed back upstairs for the most awesome craft-duct tape wallets!!! We used a really great template I found online and printed it on regular printer paper (http://www.instructables.com/id/Thin-Duct-Tape-Wallet). The kiddos got the hang of laying out the tape on the template but they needed help trimming the edges. It was cool to watch the progression of the wallet come together. They were so excited when they saw the final outcome! It was really fun and they can’t wait to make the next one.
